Telephone tour with palace assistant Alexander Reich, SPSG
The Baroque palace, resplendent in white from the outside, has an extremely varied history. From a medieval moated castle and hunting lodge, it developed under Electress Louise Henriette of Orange into a pleasure palace in the style of Dutch Classicism.
From electoral pleasure palace to royal residence
Louise Henriette's son, Elector Frederick the Third, had it enlarged and lavishly furnished after his mother's death. Frederick pursued a political goal with the architectural ornamentation on the façades and the decorations in the interiors. During the tour, you will find out who lived in the palace in the 17th and 18th centuries and what symbols the elector and later Prussian king used to make his claims to power visible.
