Cleanup Wednesdays

On August 6, 2025, Schönhauser Allee Arcaden will celebrate a significant milestone: the center will be officially recognized as a certified World Cleanup Partner. This recognition from the international network honors the center’s ongoing commitment to environmental awareness, social responsibility, and sustainable urban development.

It also marks the perfect occasion to launch the very first “Cleanup Wednesday” — a long-term cleanup initiative for the local neighborhood and community, where cleaning up is rewarded.


The festive kick-off event will take place on August 6, 2025, starting at 5:00 PM on the ground floor of the center — with high-profile support: Holger Holland, initiator of World Cleanup Day in Germany and co-author of Wir schaffen Zukunft ("We Create the Future"), and Daniela Schwerdt, long-time ambassador of World Cleanup Day, will take part in an open talk about global waste issues, local solutions, and the importance of everyday engagement.

From then on, every first Wednesday of the month, customers and neighbors are invited to borrow a “cleanup set” from the customer service desk and help clean up the neighborhood — either individually or in organized groups. As a special incentive, Schönhauser Allee Arcaden will offer small rewards for each full bag of trash collected on Cleanup Wednesday — for example, shopping vouchers for various stores in the center.

The goal is to foster shared responsibility, raise awareness around cleanliness in public spaces — and make the neighborhood a more livable place for everyone.
