House of Saint Laurent
“Beyond Ballroom” offers a unique insight into the culture and social significance of the ballroom scene. The first panel will focus on representatives of House Lives Matter (HLM) – a grassroots initiative founded 2016 in New York that advocates for the well-being, rights and visibility of ballroom members and their houses.
HLM is collectively run, has a broad regional base and is closely networked with the Hetrick-Martin Institute, which supports queer and trans young people – especially in the kiki scene. The panel “Introduction House Lives Matter” will shed light on the origins and principles of the initiative, the influence of its leading players and the vision of a global expansion of the HLM Conference. The aim is to strengthen empowerment, education and sustainable leadership structures worldwide – and to promote structural change within the scene.
