For many years, the InSpirit series has characterized the summer at the Gedächtniskirche (Memorial Church): The combination of contemporary jazz music and spiritual content in a church setting is unique in Berlin.
The famous blue light of the stained-glass windows creates an incomparable atmosphere for enjoying jazz as a spiritual musical experience. Renowned jazz musicians from Germany and abroad join theologians for the series' evenings.
InSpirit takes place every Sunday in July and August at 6 p.m.
The artistic director of InSpirit is the organist of the Gedächtniskirche, Sebastian Heindl. He not only contributes his personal enthusiasm for contemporary jazz to the selection of invited musicians, but also plays the large organ or the Hammond organ himself on some evenings.
This year's series kicks off with singers from various gospel choirs under the direction of Antje Ruhbaum, cantor for popular music in the Berlin-Steglitz church district.
Admission is free, but donations are welcome to continue the series.
