A celebration of art, freedom and splendour
The Berlin Burlesque Festival celebrates its 13th edition in 2025, offering an elaborate mix of international and local burlesque art on the stages of the Heimathafen and the Wintergarten.
The line-up has never been bigger: 14 shows from around the world per evening, plus the secret BBF Awards.
For over a decade, the Berlin Burlesque Festival has been a fixture in the international cultural landscape. With its combination of high-calibre stage art, intellectual wit and glamorous freedom, it attracts not only an art-loving international audience every year, but also students, cultural creators and lovers of sensual stage art.
Hundreds of performers from all over the world apply each year for one of the coveted spots on the culturally important and progressive stages of the Berlin Burlesque Festival – but only a carefully curated selection is invited.
The festival is known for its keen eye for new talent: those who make their debut here often soon find themselves on the world's major stages. Every year, newcomers stand side by side with celebrated stars of the international scene. This powerful mix makes the Berlin Burlesque Festival a vibrant place of change, surprise and encounter.
The art of diversity – a stage for the world
The festival line-up reflects the entire spectrum of what burlesque can mean: a wide variety of body types, age groups, cultural backgrounds and individual messages come together and unfold their effect in light, music and movement. For example, the oldest performer at the festival is 80 years old – a living legend of the scene. The youngest is in her early 20s and is stepping onto a festival stage for the first time with intoxicating energy. It is these contrasts, this lived diversity, that give the Berlin Burlesque Festival its extraordinary charisma.
The Berlin Burlesque Festival was founded by Marlene von Steenvag, one of Europe's most influential burlesque artists. Together with the internationally acclaimed jazz band The Sazerac Swingers, new records and superlatives are constantly being broken. This band, led by Max Oestersötebier, is not only at the heart of the festival, but also builds a bridge between jazz, music and burlesque that is unique in the world.
