In doing so, they set a decisive course that they will often never be able to change.
Sometimes people need courage and backbone for this, even if it means burying their heads in the sand; sometimes they give in to cowardice or passivity, sometimes they enthusiastically jump into the deep end. Being able to say in retrospect that you would do it all again is perhaps the greatest fulfillment.
