As part of the exhibition: Turning the Point 2 Little Big Cha(lle)nges by Pia Lanzinger

The socio-ecological challenges of our time call for new forms of social debate – including in the field of art and culture. An interdisciplinary colloquium will address the question of how artistic practices can contribute to democratic participation and self-education in the face of global crises.

The focus will be on civil society experiments with the arts:
How can universal participation in the cultural field be insisted upon – in a theoretically sound, historically contextualised and artistically productive way? What social, ecological and sustainable potentials can be identified and activated in art?

Based on the artistic practice of Pia Lanzinger, the possibilities and limits of cultural work in urban and civil society contexts will be explored. The debate will also address areas of tension between artistic ambition, political activism and curatorial strategies: When and how does art become an infrastructural battleground for social engagement?

The colloquium is aimed at artists, cultural practitioners, academics, activists and anyone interested in thinking about and shaping the role of art in social change.
