SPIELRAUM – the Days of the Independent Performing Arts Community in Berlin

‘Ob (dach) los’ is the first concept of a one-act one-woman opera from theater makers Anne Fidler and Emma Rothmann. The piece will follow a middle-aged woman (sung by Rothmann) navigating the social and economic forces which push her toward homelessness.

It’s an invitation to witness and participate in a raw and dynamic theatrical experience that is both intimate and allegorical. Fragmented narrative structure, soundscapes and individual musical numbers mirror this woman’s disintegrating reality as she sinks further into the insecurity that beckons her. The piece seeks to explore the intersection of aging, gender, and housing insecurity in Berlin through a bold fusion of opera, cabaret, and performance art.

Ringtheater’s workshop evenings ‘Arbeitstitle: Ob (dach) los’ offer the opportunity to join Anne and Emma for presentations of their newly developed material. Scenes, sketches, numbers, and text will be presented by Emma and Anne without additional musicians, costume or technical support. The evening is structured to lead audiences through key points of the show and elicit feedback and perceptions on the early development of this piece.
