Anja Huwe is the legendary singer of post-punk pioneers Xmal Deutschland. Following the band's success with four albums on cult labels like 4 AD Records, Huwe pursued a career in visual arts while continuing to pursue her passion for music.

In early 2024, Anja Huwe made a resounding return to the international music scene with the successful release of her solo album CODES, as well as exclusive re-releases of previous Xmal Deutschland tracks.
The album, written and produced together with Mona Mur—also a key figure in the 80s—is characterized by Mur's distinctive electronic sounds and Manuela Ricker's unique Xmal guitar style.
International press from The Guardian to Rolling Stone, from THE WIRE to Galore, celebrated the "comeback of the year" and the album with rave reviews, calling for the artist's return to the stage. Due to this demand, Anja Huwe decided to present her exquisite solo album CODES live on stage – along with a solid selection of Xmal Deutschland classics in modern interpretations, and with a new band lineup, staged with her unmistakable visuals.
Her triumphant first concert in decades – as the headliner of the GRAUZONE Festival in The Hague in February 2025 – has already made pop history.
