Comic / Graphic Novel / Sculpture: Nele Brönner, Janne Marie Dauer, Ulli Lust, Mia Oberländer, Malwine Stauss

In this exhibition, five artists present their alter egos and provide insights into their inner motivations. They show that graphic narratives not only take place on paper, but can also be expressed through sculptures and paintings.

Whether they hide behind a fictional character like Nele Brönner's Monkey Girl or appear open and unprotected like Ulli Lust, whether they have long legs like Mia Oberländer's Anna, appear as a clay figure by Malwine Stauss or are painted on canvas like Janne Marie Dauer's Cleo - they all represent characters from the world of comics.

Who doesn't want a second life, a second personality, or even a proxy like a close friend or alter ego? In the world of comics, this is not an uncommon request. Comic artists invest not just hours, but often years or even decades in their works and thereby develop a close bond with their characters. It is therefore understandable that a character they create becomes an integral part of their own identity.
