presented by Jazz am Helmholtzplatz e.V.
Allan Praskin is a master of the alto saxophone. He has internalized the Great American Songbook and, in his virtuosic, incredibly creative, and nuanced playing, embodies the entire knowledge of 20th-century jazz.
His jazz career began at the Lighthouse Café in Los Angeles, where he performed with the greats of West Coast jazz, including Chet Baker. The Lighthouse Café was even featured in the Oscar-winning film "La La Land." Allan Praskin plays both classic swing tunes and free jazz pieces. During his time in New York in the late 1960s, he immersed himself in the avant-garde improvised jazz scene and performed in legendary lofts.
For many years, he held a professorship at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz, Austria. For the past few years, he has lived in Berlin. With Carl Morgan on guitar, Lars Gühlcke on bass, and Roland Schneider on drums,
he has formed a wonderful new quartet.
Jazz am Helmholtzplatz e.V. is delighted to welcome a living legend of American jazz back to the expanded concert hall.
