This year's symposium of the Friends of Beautiful Old Pewter will be hosted by the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin at Köpenick Palace on June 13-14, 2025. It begins with a handling session in the depot of the Stadtmuseum Berlin on June 12, 2025.
At the suggestion of the pewter collectors led by Dr. Otto A. Baumgärtel, Munich, the academic conference on Friday and Saturday (June 13-14) will discuss our museum's exquisite collection of precious and utility pewter and place it in a broader context. The material iconography and social contexts of tin production will be addressed, as will current museum collecting practices.
A third section will be dedicated to boulle marquetry with pewter by cabinetmaker Joh. Daniel Sommer: a magnificent table by his hand is one of the collection's most valuable pieces of furniture and is on display at Köpenick Palace.
The event is aimed at all those who deal with old pewter in their work or out of personal interest.
Look forward to stimulating lectures, remarkable objects, lively discussions, and valuable contacts.
Unfortunately, the number of participants in the depot building of the Berlin City Museum is limited. Therefore, please let us know if you will be attending the handling session on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Your registration time is crucial.
Admission from 8:30 a.m. (Fri.) or 9:00 a.m. (Sat.)
