The SHORT FILM DAY in Berlin
Long nights, short films – the most unconventional of all film formats has another reason to celebrate: From 15 to 21 December, the shortest day of the year, the 14th KURZFILMTAG (Short Film Day) invites people of all ages throughout Germany to discover the colourful universe of short films and watch them together.

From the East Frisian Islands to Gauting in Upper Bavaria, more than 400 events in over 180 towns and communities across the country will delight audiences. In addition to countless large cities, rural regions in particular are once again participating with original short film events.

In 2025, the motto of KURZFILMTAG will be: NOW! Because now is the time to take matters into our own hands and make a change. The 2025 motto calls on us to take action, to look and to get involved. It stands for the urgency to tell stories and take action now. At the same time, NOW! invites us to consciously perceive the present by watching and discussing together. Short films capture the now – immediately, precisely, touchingly and entertainingly.
The programme is as varied as the venues: KURZFILMTAG can really take place anywhere: Short films can be seen not only in many cinemas on the big screen, but also in museums, cafés, at Christmas markets, as living Advent calendars, in youth centres, kindergartens, retirement homes, shops, garages, in the forest, on farms, as well as online, on television and in many other places. There are no limits to creativity!
