About the GERMAN RUM FESTIVAL

The GERMAN RUM FESTIVAL was launched in 2010 and has developed over the years into the world's largest trade fair for sugar cane distillates. The GERMAN RUM FESTIVAL is aimed at end consumers with high standards of enjoyment and quality. Professionals from the hospitality and retail sectors gather here to gain an overview of brands, products, and trends.

When Dirk Becker organized the first festival, his main goal was to share his passion and bring the spirit rum out of the shadows, bringing it closer to connoisseurs. Rum was once widespread and popular in Germany and Europe, but was then displaced by whiskey in the 1950s and somewhat forgotten. Therefore, organizing such a trade fair was anything but a given and required not only a willingness to take risks but also considerable persuasion and perseverance.

Today, more than a decade later, the view of the world of rum has fundamentally changed, and a huge fan base and a large market have emerged. Large and long-established brands have created new bottlings, but above all, many new, ambitious independent bottlers have emerged with interesting products. And here, too, a clear trend can be seen, moving away from the mainstream and toward issues of sustainability, artisanal production, and the promotion of regional characteristics and specialties.
