With Ilka Voermann, curator of the exhibition and head of the Graphic Arts Collection

Berlin-based multimedia artist Marc Brandenburg (*1965) is internationally regarded as one of the most important contemporary draftsmen and draftswomen. His work spans graphic art, collage, installation, video, and performance. At its core are detailed pencil drawings based on photographic sources, which he captures during his wanderings or samples from magazines, films, and books. Brandenburg reflects on the contrasts of urban life, addressing social injustices as well as excess and consumerism as consequences of late capitalism. What is conveyed is less a narrative than a melancholic and ominous mood that subtly alludes to the crises of our time. The comprehensive retrospective features around 150 drawings as well as videos, tattoo sheets, and photos.

Admission is included with the museum ticket.
