In 2025, the Spandau district awarded the Spandau Culture Prize "Der Julius" for the first time. Located on the western edge of Berlin, Spandau boasts a diverse cultural scene encompassing visual artists, musicians, theater professionals and projects, performative and interdisciplinary artists, and writers.
The Spandau Culture Prize "Der Julius" aims to express a clear appreciation for Spandau's cultural professionals and strengthen the district's cultural diversity.
The prize is awarded for outstanding achievements in a particular discipline, for exceptional commitment to the district's cultural work, or for innovative formats that enable participation by as many people as possible, both as active participants and as audiences.
In 2025, the prize was dedicated to the visual arts and was endowed with a total of €10,000. It was presented on November 28th by the District Councillor for Culture, Dr. Carola Brückner presented the awards to the photographic artist Georgia Krawiec (1st prize), the draughtswoman Karen Scheper (2nd prize), and the painter Aydin Öztek (3rd prize).
