Sandra Ratkovic REALLY?

The exhibition presents a juxtaposition of photographs from today's USA and images from so-called Western towns in Germany.


These Western towns are theme parks with themed backdrops—fantasy locations that function like small urban communities, complete with mayors, saloons, prisons, and cemeteries where you can actually be buried, as well as churches where weddings are celebrated “in style.” Staged historical battles are also organized; heroism and cannon fire are part of the weekend leisure activities here.

About the photographer:

Sandra Ratkovic's artistic work focuses on forms of representation that make social transformations visible, as well as on the polyphony of places of remembrance. She has published photo books with Hatje Cantz Verlag and received scholarships from the Kunstfonds Foundation and the ifa – Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, among others.
