Paintings by Hanneke van der Hoeven, Skadi Engeln, and Karin Grote; ceramics from Berlin by Beatrice Behrens, Cornelia Gutsche, and Susanne Schill; from Les Archers by Fany Gaillard and Patrick Crulis.
Different visual worlds collide. Hanneke van der Hoeven explores the world above and below water, Skadi Engeln's surreal worlds seem submerged, and Karin Grote's works show subtle abstract landscapes, reduced yet incredibly rich in detail.
Painting / Printmaking
Hanneke van der Hoeven – Drawing and Painting
Hanneke van der Hoeven is a Dutch illustrator, painter, writer, and artist. She sees herself as a storyteller in pictures. She has been living and working in Amsterdam and Berlin since 2009.
Skadi Engeln – Painting – Overpaintings
Here, imaginary landscapes, dreamlike underwater worlds, incongruous reflections, freely associated forms and figures were created.
Skadi Engeln studied at the Ottersberg University of Applied Sciences, sculpture with Robert van de Laar, painting with Michael Kohr and Hermanus Westendorp. She lives and works in Berlin and France.
Karin Grote – Ink painting
Karin Grote presents observations of nature in very large formats with intuitive, spirited brushstrokes. She contrasts these with small formats featuring delicate abstract landscapes that appear reduced, almost graphic, yet are incredibly detailed with a filigree, calligraphic, and musical style.
Karin Grote studied art and design in Hanover, specializing in calligraphy and etching.
Ceramics
Beatrice Behrens – Functional ceramics
Beatrice Behrens discovered her passion for designing tableware in 2017. The result is a diverse collection of functional, high-quality tableware. The designs range from minimalist to Art Deco, covering a wide variety of styles.
Fany G. – Ceramic sculptures
Fany G has been drawn to working with clay since childhood. She taught ceramics for 15 years and continued her training through exchanges with experienced ceramists in Paris and the Drôme region. Fany G lives and works in Les Archers, Berry.
Her sculptures made of raku and metal are inspired by the fauna and flora that surround her, with a characteristic touch of humor and imagination. Her work seems to have sprung from a phantasmagorical universe populated by animals, insects, and flowers in astonishing colors.
Cornelia Gutsche
A draughtswoman, Cornelia Gutsche, and a potter, Dörte Thiessen, meet. An exciting and joyful collaboration ensues. Turning, shaping, drawing, scratching, scraping – glazing together. Images spread across the surface of vessels. Playfully strung together, shapes become spaces, figures and other beings.
Patrick Crulis
Patrick Crulis studied at the Lycée de Sèvres with Andrée Hirlet and at the Académie des Beaux Arts de Paris with Christian Boltanski. He taught fine arts and furthered his painting studies in Paris before settling in central France (Les Archers, Berry) to devote himself exclusively to sculpture and ceramics. Here he presents his functional ceramics, which, like his sculptures, are characterized by their gestural style.
