In the project "On the barricades!", pupils from two eighth-grade classes at Thomas-Mann-Gymnasium (Märkisches Viertel) researched the events of the March Revolution of 1848/49 in Berlin. Why did people take to the streets back then? And what does this have to do with us today?

For the research work, the curator of the Knoblauchaus Museum opened the museum archiveto the students. There they studied the historical collection of sources from the estate of the Knoblauch family, who once lived in the house.
The young people presented the results of their project in a revolutionary newspaper, a map of the city and audio stations in the Hermann Room of the Museum Knoblauchhaus. In the exhibition curated by them, they also make their own statements visible to all visitors.

Realization: Imke Küster (art historian) and Stefanie von Schroeter (artist)

  • Duration: The exhibition will take place from Tuesday, July 22 to Sunday, August 31, 2025 in the Hermannzimmer of the Museum Knoblauchhaus.
  • Meeting point: Hermannzimmer
