Film screening in conjunction with the exhibition "Today, Tomorrow: Cinematic Perspectives on Berlin around 1990" at the nGbK. With director Lilly Grote.

"Berlin Friedrichstrasse Station 1990" is a documentary film by Konstanze Binder, Lilly Grote, Ulrike Herdin, and Julia Kunert. When the border was dismantled at Friedrichstrasse Station in June 1990, the world was thrown into disarray and reassembled. Four filmmakers from East and West wanted to capture this historic moment: the flow of travelers, the thoughts and worries of passersby, the bewildered face of a customs officer.

"Berlin Friedrichstrasse Station 1990" is an important historical document and, at the same time, an audiovisual archive that unflinchingly captured the dizzying transformations of that era on celluloid. The footage shows, on a small scale, the upheaval that followed the fall of the Wall and the disorientation in a city suddenly reuniting.

Followed by a discussion with Lilly Grote

Film: 85 minutes

About the film series

The film series accompanying the exhibition "Today Still, Tomorrow Already" at the Nikolaikirche Museum explores the changes in Berlin since the end of the division from a variety of perspectives. Documentary and experimental films present personal stories, societal ruptures and continuities, as well as artistic interventions. Each evening, at least one director will be present to discuss their work and the context of their films with curators Suy Lan Hopmann and Florian Wüst.
