A small box of charred grape seeds raises big questions. An open conversation with students.

A small box of charred grape seeds raises profound questions. An open discussion with students.

Students in the Master's program in Museum Management at HTW Berlin are exploring the murky history of 5,000-year-old grape seeds from an ancient Egyptian tomb. Why were they left there? What do they reveal about the deceased? How did they arrive in Europe, and why did their journey end at the Stadtmuseum Berlin?

This "Object of the Month" raises many questions about the interplay of power politics, science, and the appropriation of museum objects.

The students have curated an accompanying exhibition entitled "Grains of Memory – Key Questions," which critically examines the object's history through artistic and academic perspectives. It will be on display from January 30 to February 8, 2026, at the Kiezkapelle Neukölln.
