Christof Thewes - trombone + Jan Roder - double bass

After living in various places, Jan Roder has been based in Berlin since 1995, where he devotes his time to contemporary jazz and improvised music.


He plays and has played with Alexander v. Schlippenbach, Aki Takase, Rudi Mahall, Ulrich Gumpert, Ernst Ludwig Petrowski, Peter Brötzmann, Wolfgang Puschnig, Axel Dörner, Wlli Kellers, Michael Griener, Oliver Steidle, Silke Eberhard, Olaf Rupp, and many others. Concert tours and festivals all over the world. Roder is involved in projects such as Monks Casino, Die Enttäuschung, Soko Steidle, Silke Eberhard Trio, JR3 (with Rudi Mahall and Olaf Rupp), and many others. He also performs as a soloist and occasionally works as a studio musician.


Christof Thewes works as a trombonist, composer, and arranger. He leads various ensembles and music projects ranging from solo to big band, which move between modern jazz, free improvisation, and new music to experimental rock, funk, and pop music. He currently performs this music as a composer and conductor in the music groups Christof Thewes Quartet, Undertone Project, the big band Little Big Band, the new music ensembles Modern Chamber Trio (Ensemble), the experimental pop group Phase 4, and the solo project Trombonealone. He also works in the fields of literature, theater, and music with the writer, filmmaker, and speaker Alfred Gulden in the award-winning formation Gulden–Thewes.
