The dissolution of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp in 1945
In her study *War, Movement, and Extreme Violence* (2025), Janine Fubel examines the final months of one of Germany's major concentration camp complexes.
She shows how the camp commandant's office initiated evacuation measures at this early stage, before the final dissolution began in April with the death marches. Camp personnel, the SS, and the police, as well as the local population, set in motion a brutal evacuation process that lasted until the first days of May and claimed thousands more victims.
