Planting campaign to restore dead areas in Babelsberg Park

For several years now, the eastern sections of Babelsberg Park have been undergoing a transformation due to progressive climate change. Many of the old beech trees are severely damaged, dying, or have had to be removed in recent years.

The original 19th-century garden design envisioned dense, woodland-like planting along the avenue to Glienicke, intended to conceal the park's boundary. To preserve the historical park in its original design, the loss of these mature trees must be replaced with young "substitute" trees. For the past four years, the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg (SPSG) has therefore been replanting these woodland areas.

Participants are invited to help. Feel free to bring your own spade. This year, nearly 3,000 young trees from a Brandenburg forest nursery and many seedlings from natural regeneration will be planted in Babelsberg Park.

During the participatory event, the gardeners will report on other projects that are making Babelsberg Park more resilient to climate change and will be available to answer questions.
