Coming to terms with colonialism in German history remains a relatively unexplored area of the map of remembrance culture. In the cemetery on Columbiadamm stands the so-called Herero Stone—a relic from the colonial era—which, in its current state, raises more questions than it answers. In 2023/24, the Neukölln Museum, together with the Namibian artist Isabel Tueumuna Katjavivi, curated the exhibition BURIED MEMORIES on this topic.
The anniversary of the city partnership between Berlin and Windhoek provides us with a welcome opportunity to present the results and insights from the program work of the exhibition "BURIED MEMORIES: On Dealing with Remembrance. The Genocide of the Ovaherero and Nama" in a specially curated cabinet exhibition.
A digital reader (German/English) accompanies the cabinet exhibition.
Admission is free, and the venue is partially wheelchair accessible.
Exhibition Dates: November 17–23, 2025 | Opening Hours: 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Registration is required to visit the cabinet exhibition. Please register by emailing:
