Where does one live with trust? Where is the best world? Georg Philipp Telemann explores these questions in his cantata "Die Landlust" (The Joy of the Countryside). Life in the countryside, close to nature, in contrast to the big city or life at a princely court, was already a popular theme in operas, singspiels, and cantatas during the Baroque era.

The composer Telemann had a large garden just outside Hamburg and exchanged ideas about flowers and plants with Handel, among others. In "Moral Cantatas" or texts by the German poet Barthold Heinrich Brockes, many musicians grappled with the fundamental questions of their time. Handel's immensely famous "Nine German Arias" still bear witness to these ideas.

Even today, in light of climate change, the phasing out of coal, and renewable energies, people are discussing alternative lifestyles. Together with soprano Johanna Kaldewei and actress Imogen Kogge, the Lautten Compagney, through Baroque music, takes a look back at history, aiming to stimulate reflection on the future.
