At the border of the districts Alt-Treptow, Neukölln, and Kreuzberg, you can still find authentic traces and remnants of the “Antifascist Protection Wall” within the former death strip — far away from the usual tourist paths.

A historic bridge has been demolished, and more and more buildings are emerging on the former border. Slowly, it is disappearing. For more than 35 years, this area has remained open for those who wish to explore the past — but for how much longer?

Grass is relentlessly reclaiming the concrete foundations. Fences of the hinterland wall and old border markings are vanishing into the bushes. Lamp posts that once illuminated the death strip still blend into the cityscape today. Not easy to find — unless you know where to look…

Discover history while it still exists!

Using historical photos shown during the tour, you can compare the past with the present and get a vivid impression of what life was like in the former border zone.

The walk starts at the Watchtower in Schlesischer Busch Park, follows the Landwehr Canal along the border between Kreuzberg and Alt-Treptow towards Neukölln, and ends at Elsenstraße (total length: 2.2 km).
