Book launch with Pierre Sanoussi-Bliss

Black, gay, East German: Pierre Sanoussi-Bliss, actor, director, and jungle camp favorite, recounts in his autobiography “I blocked out the rest” with disarming honesty and clever wit how he remains true to himself between the spotlight and racism.

Growing up in East Berlin as the son of a West African father and a German mother, he had to grapple with questions of belonging, visibility, and identity from an early age. His professional career began with training as a chef and led him via drama school to renowned stages and finally to cinema and television.

He became known through films such as Doris Dörrie's Keiner liebt mich (Nobody Loves Me) and his long-standing role as Inspector Axel Richter in the ZDF crime series Der Alte (The Old Man). But Pierre Sanoussi-Bliss is more than just a television personality: he is a director, children's book author, audiobook narrator, activist, and part of the #actout campaign for more diversity in art and media.

Disarmingly honest, but always with a twinkle in his eye, he recounts in his book his personal and political struggles, his successes and defeats, racism and homophobia – and the freedom to start over again and again.
