A Singing Session

This intimate matinee centres on the ear as a medium and the voice, as an extension of the body, as material within Van Dinther’s practice. In his performances, the sonic element often exists as one layer within a multifaceted composition of movement, light, and scenography. Here it is dissociated and isolated, inviting audiences to experience sound not as accompaniment but as action in itself. This low-key, staged singing rehearsal foregrounds the acoustic power of the voice, offering a rare opportunity to encounter the materiality of singing in its immediate, unadorned form.


Drawing on vocal scores and sonic materials from previous works such as “Unearth” (2022), “REMACHINE” (2023), and “AUSLAND” (2024), “Dear Darkness” invites audiences to get closer to the dancers as singers, and to the presence, vulnerability, and textures that singing bodies generate in a shared space.
