Lotte Reiniger's famous fairy tale film accompanied live on the Mighty Wurlitzer theater organ by Anna Vavilkina

This breathtakingly beautiful fairy tale based on motifs from One Thousand and One Nights is the first feature-length animated film in film history. Its poetry and enchanting characters still make it an unforgettable experience.

The film is aimed at a young audience and continues to delight children and young people to this day. The animated silhouette film, on which Lotte Reiniger worked for three years, ranks 73rd among the 100 most important German films of the German Film Archive Association and is included in the list of films of historical value.

  • Director: Lotte Reiniger, DE 1926–1929, 66 minutes
  • At the Mighty Wurlitzer theater organ: Anna Vavilkina

The Mighty Wurlitzer theater organ at the Musical Instrument Museum is one of the largest surviving instruments of its kind in Europe. In 1929, Werner Ferdinand von Siemens, the grandson of the company's founder, purchased it from the Rudolph Wurlitzer Company in North Tonawanda, NY. It has four manuals, 1,228 pipes, and more than 200 stops. In addition, there are a large number of percussion and effect instruments. Thunderclaps and birdsong, sirens wailing and bells ringing—the Mighty Wurlitzer's sound palette is impressive.
