Avishai Cohen is one of the great voices of contemporary jazz – as a bassist, composer, and charismatic bandleader, he inspires audiences worldwide. Bassplayer Magazine lists him among the most influential instrumentalists of the 20th century.
After moving to New York, he played with Chick Corea, worked with Herbie Hancock and Bobby McFerrin – and conquered the international scene in 1998 with his acclaimed solo album Adama.
Avishai Cohen (bass, vocals) returns with his band for the 38th edition of the Jewish Culture Days Berlin. The concert is the second part of a program whose first section thrilled audiences in 2022.
“Singing in Hebrew is a very personal experience for me, connecting me directly to my roots. These pieces are a tribute to my cultural heritage,” says Cohen. His music combines jazz with traditional lyrics and melodies – deeply rooted in Israeli culture and inspired by the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
He is accompanied by Itay Simhovich (piano), Eviatar Slivnik (drums), Yonotan Voltzok (trombone), Hadas Kleinman (cello, vocals), and Yuval Drabkin (saxophone). An evening full of intensity, groove, and emotion.
