Anne Frank, born in Frankfurt am Main in 1929, is one of the most famous witnesses of the Shoah. In 1933, her family fled to Amsterdam, where they went into hiding in the rear building of Otto Frank's company in 1942. It was there that Anne began her diary—a unique document about fear, everyday life, hope, and self-discovery.
Between 1943 and 1944, she also wrote around 40 short stories, fairy tales, and observations, which she collected in her own notebook: “Stories and Events from the Secret Annex.” The clear structure and style reveal her literary talent; she read her texts to her fellow hiders and dreamed of publication.
Anne Frank was murdered in 1945 in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Her father Otto published excerpts from the diary in 1947. Today, her work is regarded worldwide as a moving testimony to the Shoah and as the voice of a young author who wanted to be heard.
Judith Poznan, born in Berlin, studied literature and journalism in Berlin after training as a bookseller. She works as a freelance cultural journalist. She has also published two novels.
