A baroque suite, a sonata movement, an entire symphony, inventions on key, rhythm, and even a single note, military music, a dance band, natural sounds like Mahler's, a double fugue with whistled counterpoint, lullabies, hunting songs, a fast polka on the ship's piano - Alban Berg packs all this and much more into the only 90-minute opera Wozzeck, which premiered at the Berlin State Opera exactly 100 years ago.
The work is bursting with life and constantly strives for beauty, which, however, can only be found in the bitter reality of the soldier Wozzeck's life in a state of intoxication. Elias Corrinth will examine Alban Berg's demanding, condensed musical language in his time-honored manner and bring it closer to the audience, not least by including a recital that the composer himself gave at the piano from the audience.
This edition of OpernSalon will illuminate the hidden forms and ideas in Wozzeck and elevate your enjoyment of the performance to a whole new level!
