For 40 years, the Stasi secured the rule of the ruling SED party. In its ‘fight against the enemy,’ the Ministry for State Security expanded further and further – in Lichtenberg and throughout the GDR. In 1990, courageous citizens not only saved the secret police's files from destruction, they also turned Mielke's headquarters back into a public space. Today, the Stasi Records Archive is located here and provides information about the work of the Stasi and its records.
