About the project

On October 3, 2025, a houseboat on the Spree River will be transformed into a floating stage – and the audience on the riverbank, wearing wireless headphones, will experience the exclusive premiere of "The Sound of Le Boat," the new piece by Berlin band Kat Koan.



The composition wasn't created in a studio, but rather in the middle of a houseboat, surrounded by water, wind, and birdsong. During a multi-day retreat on the Mecklenburg Lake District, the band was inspired by the natural surroundings – and created a sound artwork that audibly demonstrates how nature and music can touch us emotionally and open up new creative spaces.



The project is more than just a musical experiment: It is based on scientific findings that demonstrate the positive influence of natural sounds on human well-being. Studies show that sounds like birdsong or the gentle rushing of water reduce stress, promote concentration, and provide inner peace. The band experienced this very effect on the houseboat themselves – and captured it in their sound.



The venue could hardly be more fitting: a quiet spot in the middle of the city, overlooking the water, far from the hustle and bustle – perfect for a concert dedicated to happiness in nature.



The project's partner is Le Boat, a provider of license-free houseboat holidays.



About Kat Koan

Sound art between electronic music, jazz, and experimental pop music. Kat Koan is known for her electrifying, genre-spanning music, which combines electronic elements, jazz influences, and experimental pop sounds, and consistently incorporates surprising elements into her live shows. Kat Koan expresses unvarnished, contemporary messages and intense emotions, which she packages in a powerful sound.
