ein Chor/al

Driven by indignation and the need to release pent-up tension, a psychologically and politically displaced performance-choir moves, speaks and rejoices in acts of song and text within the expansive space of the Delphi Theater --constructing an illusionary kingdom in the twilight of post-modernism.

A new heaven is emerging. Under the pressure of multiple crises, fears, blame and responsibility are being projected into a neo-mythological sphere of conspiracy theories, reptilian politicians and technocratic visual fantasies. Everything that overwhelms the mind and well-being is outsourced by a growing number of people to a cloudy entanglement ‘somewhere up there’.

However, there is also a very real new ‘up there’: algorithms, messages, advertising slogans and deepfake campaigns race ever faster over our heads, influencing our actions. The abstraction of administrations as the umbrella of our democracies is difficult for individuals to grasp and seems to be taking on a life of its own. And the wealth of the super-rich is beyond anyone's imagination.

An interdisciplinary language and singing choir will build this heaven at Theater im Delphi, condensing this paradoxical, dissonant double sphere into a physical oratorio – in performative vocal direction and pop-atonal composition by Sir Henry, driven by the divine to diabolical cello playing of Ukrainian musician Emilia Lomakova, in discursive-ecstatic text rhythms by director Heiko Michels.

Limited blindness is an association of performing artists. Since 2002, their theatre has been intervening in pressing contemporary issues. Most recently, in July 2025, they launched a performative illegal ferry across the Oder River to Poland (Break on through to the ODER side) in response to new border controls – with international press coverage. ‘Die da oben!’ (Those up there!) is the first collaboration between Limited blindness founder and director Heiko Michels and the Volksbühne's ‘mastermind of music’ (New York Times), Sir Henry.
