Free picture-book reading and workshop for children aged 6 and up

What gives you a sense of home? A girl and her mother are forced to flee their familiar, snow-covered town to escape the war.

Far away in the south, everything is different. The sparse apartment, the foreign language, the view from the window. Even the mother seems absent and alien. Until one day, together, they fold a large paper star, just like they used to. Its warm glow brings back a piece of the old familiarity and simultaneously ushers in a new beginning.

"A Star in a Foreign Land" is read as an interactive picture cinema and we visit the exhibition by Charmaine Poh, Deutsche Bank's Artist of the Year, whose artistic work often explores migration and the lives of women in exile.

In the subsequent workshop, you will invent a cozy home and fold glowing stars.

Anna Desnitskaya fled Russia to Montenegro with her family in 2022. She incorporated her experiences into this picture book.
