SPIELRAUM – The Days of the Independent Performing Arts Community in Berlin
There are situations that make us uncomfortable. Words we don't speak. Injustices we see and allow to happen – out of fear, habit, self-protection, or consideration.
But who does this silence really protect? And what price do people pay every time they choose to remain silent?
Silence is Sexy is a collective creation by Pandeforium that combines music, body language, images, and spoken text to question the collective silence in the face of injustice. Using the method of forum theater, the audience is invited to actively participate, develop alternative strategies for action, and reflect on the limits of what can be said.
After the performance, soup will be served for a shared meal and continued conversation.
- The event is part of SPIELRAUM – Independent Scene Days of the Performing Arts Berlin
Additional information
KURINGA – Space for Theatre of the Oppressed, founded by Bárbara Santos, Christoph Leucht, and Till Baumann, has existed in Berlin-Wedding since 2011.
Under the artistic direction of Bárbara Santos, KURINGA continuously develops, explores, and expands the methods of the Theatre of the Oppressed and the Teatro de las Oprimidas – with a feminist, anti-racist, and decolonial approach.
The space has evolved into a center for training, workshops, and performances and is home to community-based forum theater groups. KURINGA produces forum theater productions whose powerful aesthetics open spaces for dialogic encounters. The audience is expressly invited to actively intervene, participate, and collaboratively develop new possibilities.
KURINGA realized the groundbreaking forum theater production Aesthetics of Solidarity at Uferstudios Berlin – a unique production in Germany. Rooted in the Berlin district of Wedding and active in international networks such as TOgether, the Ma(g)dalena International Network and ReLATO, KURINGA promotes local and global dialogue using theatre as a means for social transformation.
