Russia is waging an information war against the West and Germany in particular: an attempt to damage German democracy and divide the European Union.

A gigantic propaganda industry is spreading half-truths, lies and conspiracy narratives on all media channels, especially on social platforms. The true extent of this threat is barely known, we only see the tip of the iceberg.

In their latest book, former diplomat and Vice President of the BND Arndt Freytag von Loringhoven and philosopher and propaganda expert Leon Erlenhorst show how digital manipulation and infiltration work in Germany and make concrete suggestions on how we can better protect ourselves before our society is further damaged.

This book documents the complex interplay between intelligence services, media channels, bots and troll factories, social networks and Kremlin henchmen, as well as the extensive resources deployed by Moscow for this purpose.

The challenges that our society must overcome provide a fertile breeding ground for Russian disinformation, especially in Germany. Politics and society should focus more on these dangers and implement solution strategies.
