Uksuum Cauyai: The Drums of Winter
An extraordinary, intimate documentary about the historical and contemporary value of traditional dance, the music and spiritual world of the Yup’ik people of Emmonak, Alaska. While the elders prepare the potlatch, their ceremonial gathering with the neighboring village, they explain how dance has influenced the resilience of Yup’ik culture against a century of missionary suppression.
