Panel discussion with Rüdiger Horstmann, Marion Schubert and Prof. em. Dr. Jutta Ströter-Bender, moderated by Dr. Mathias Rösch.



Rüdiger Horstmann works as a sales manager in Hamburg. From 2010, he researched the history of his grandfather, SS officer Walter Schallock (1903-1974). During the Second World War, as a member of various Einsatzkommandos, he was directly involved in the murder of the Jewish population.


Marion Schubert (née Salomon) was born in Shanghai in 1946. Her Jewish parents had fled from the Nazis to China in 1938/39. the family returned to Berlin via Israel in 1953. Marion Schubert's husband Reinhard (1944-2000) worked as a lawyer in the Federal Ministry of Justice for the repeal of Nazi injustice sentences.


Jutta Ströter-Bender is co-founder of the International Research and Archives Network for Historical Children's and Youth Drawings (IRAND). It was only a few years ago that she and her husband discovered that her mother-in-law was considered half-Jewish during the Nazi era. Her father-in-law, who worked on the Nazi rocket program, had married her in 1940 with the help of forged papers.
