In this creative activity for the Day of Open Monuments, families will learn about St. Nicholas Church, Berlin's oldest surviving church building.
Here, they will discover why, how, and by whom the building was originally constructed. By examining its construction method, the materials used, and selected objects from the exhibition in what is now a museum, children and adults will learn about the most important eras in Berlin's history. In doing so, they will discover how a building can reflect the wealth and importance of a city.
In the practical part of the creative activity, participating families will "reconstruct" the church's facade. They will design building elements as stamps and use them to "build" their St. Nicholas Church, brick by brick, using paint.
