Since its inception in 2009, the ensemble has been dedicated to developing contemporary music that blends different musical cultures from around the world into something new.

Rather than one culture appropriating another, the aim is to learn from each other, understand and develop the unfamiliar into something familiar.

Concert series at the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Villa Elisabeth have secured the ensemble a firm place in the music landscape.

The laudatory speech for the German Record Critics' Award by Helmut Rohm perhaps sums it up best:

"A compellingly composed programme of pieces from the Far East and Germany! The musicians of the AsianArt Ensemble, founded in Munich in 2009, have succeeded in developing a culture of ensemble playing that is truly astonishing. As they allow the intonation patterns and vocabularies, colouring and rhythmic energies of Eastern and Western traditions to flow together in a stream of sound, listeners are sometimes led to believe that time and space no longer play a role."

The AsianArt Ensemble are:
  • Hong Yoo - Daegeum
  • Youjin Sung - Gayageum
  • Yejina Kim - Ajeang
  • Woongsik Kim - Janggu
  • Matthias Leupold - violin
  • Wolfgang Bender - violin
  • Chang-Yun Yoo - viola
  • Uschik Choi - cello
  • Oliver Potratz - double bass
  • Adam Weisman - percussion
  • Il-Ryun Chung - musical director
