The third edition of the Performing Arts Season at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele will take place from 16 October 2025 to 25 January 2026. It takes the elusive and often questionable concept of ‘identity’ as its starting point.
Rather than contenting themselves with simple representations of identity, the works shown in the 2025/26 performing arts season address the vulnerability and multiple contradictions of our identities. They explore similarities and differences, but rather than focusing on what divides us, they focus on what connects us – on what unites us both as individuals and as a collective.
The South African artist and campaigner for justice and equality, William Kentridge, will open the next performing arts season in October with his music theatre piece ‘The Great Yes, The Great No’, inspired by exile and colonial history. The choreographers Akram Khan, Eun-Me Ahn and Gisèle Vienne, among others, are also expected to attend. Together with the Gropius Bau, the Performing Arts Season is also presenting works by the dancer, choreographer and video artist Ligia Lewis.
