SPIELRAUM – the Days of the Independent Performing Arts Community in Berlin

Komische Vögel (Funny Birds) is based on the 300 or so starlings that have decided to demise as migratory birds and spend the winter at Alexanderplatz S-Bahn station. They feed on fast food. Some of them imitate the S-Bahn signal.

In this piece, almost only original texts are spoken by people who are about to observe birds or who talk about how they have observed birds. Birds are neither present nor audible. There are no VR goggles and no one is naked. Classics are not quoted.

The theatre makers putting this play on stage belong to a species whose numbers are in sharp decline, perhaps even threatened with extinction. However, this statement lacks any scientific basis, as the stocks of theatre professionals are not mapped.

Premiere on 2 October at the TD Berlin.
