The small Korean island of Wido, also known as ‘Goseomseom’ (Hedgehog Island) due to its pine needles resembling hedgehog quills, forms the basis of this work.

Inspired by the traditional Pung-o-je, a ritual passed down through generations, it tells the story of a fisherman who, like the other fishermen, ventures out to sea despite violent storms and attempts to calm the forces of the sea through rituals.
‘Goseomseon’ is a visually stunning reminder of a life lived in harmony with the forces of nature, while also telling of the cultural power of traditional rituals.

An event organised by the Korean Jeonbuk State Gugak Centre
