On Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 3:30 p.m., the Berlin Oratorio Choir will present a challenging choral symphonic program at the Berlin Philharmonic. Under the direction of Thomas Hennig, works from two centuries will come together, both sacred and secular, classical and contemporary.
The focus will be on Antonín Dvořák's Mass in D major (1887) and the Messe solennelle (1999) by French composer Naji Hakim, both composed for choir and organ. These will be joined by songs by Johannes Brahms for women's choir, wind instruments, and harp, as well as two newer pieces by Thomas Hennig that musically address current social issues.
The performers are soloists Iphigenie Worbes (soprano), Gundula Hintz (alto), Myungwon Kim (tenor) and Haakon Schaub (bass), Daniel Seeger on the organ, the chamber ensemble of the Neue Preußische Philharmonie and the Berlin Oratorio Choir.
Program
- Antonín Dvořák: Mass in D major, Op. 86
- Johannes Brahms: Four Songs, Op. 17 & Ellen's Second Song
- Thomas Hennig: “Zan, Zendegi, Azadi” / “Jin, Ziyan, Azadi” (from “Geminiden 23”)
- Naji Hakim: Messe solennelle
