Summer Talks at the Stabi: What will carry us into the future
In the last event of our Summer Talks series at the Stabi: ‘What Carries Us into the Future,’ Margarita Tsomou talks to Peter Rehberg about new forms of intimacy.
Intimacy is often anchored in the togetherness of a couple or in the bosom of the family. But queer subcultures in particular are also experimenting with intimate scenes: who can join in and where they take place.
At the same time, social media has given rise to new cultures of intimacy that also carry political weight. Inspired by the writings of Lauren Berlant and Leo Bersani, Peter Rehberg's research focuses on forms of intimacy as seen, for example, in the contemporary art of the ‘New Queer Intimists’ (including Doron Langberg, Louis Fratino, Salman Toor).
Peter Rehberg is DAAD Professor of German, Media & Queer Studies at the University of Cincinnati. From 2018 to 2022, he was collection and archive director at the Gay Museum Berlin.
Margarita Tsomou is a theatre scholar, dramaturge, dancer, performance artist and activist. She works as a curator for theory & discourse at HAU. Since 2019, she has been Professor of Contemporary Theatre Practice at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences.
Subsystem consists of Almut Schlichting on baritone saxophone and Sven Hinse on double bass.
The event will take place in the courtyard of Café Felix. (Unter den Linden 8)
