“Bouncin’ In Bubbleverse“ - Releasetour

The trio has perfected another of its unmistakable trademarks – the use of odd time signatures. None of the compositions on “Bouncin’ In Bubbleverse” are in 4/4 time.

You don't hold it against the band. Quite the opposite: You dance to it. “Odd Times to Party,” as the album's opening track so beautifully ambiguously puts it.

“That's what the album says,” explains Matti Klein, “we may be living in challenging and strange times – but we're making the best of it!”

Press quotes: “An epic beauty that's second to none.” Victoriah Szirmai - JAZZTHETIK / “It grooves tremendously (...) like in the best days of soul under the Tamla/Motown banner.” Thorsten Bednarz - Deutschlandfunk Kultur

With:

  • Matti Klein - Wurlitzer, Rhodes bass
  • Lars Zander - bass clarinet, saxophone
  • André Seidel - drums

What is soul? A captivating musical style, some say. An overwhelming feeling, others claim.

At the center of the soundscape are the warm Wurlitzer sounds of bandleader Matti Klein, who has graced the most important jazz clubs in New York, Tokyo, London, and Paris with the funk jazz group Mo' Blow and Brazilian singer Ed Motta.

The soothing low tones of a 1973 Fender Rhodes piano bass are a similarly unique selling point, as is the use of sound effects by tenor saxophonist and bass clarinetist Lars Zander. Drummer André Seidel's elastic playing ensures that the trio's other specialty, their unpretentious penchant for odd meters, is literally unobtrusive.

Matti Klein and his Soul Trio prove with their third album, "Bouncin' In Bubbleverse": It can be incredibly fun to juggle the most diverse bubbles from the genres of jazz, funk, hip hop, or space rock.
