Galerie Nord | Kunstverein Tiergarten will present two parallel exhibition projects in summer 2025: Under the title Körper Speicher Tempel (Body Memory Temple), Berlin-based sculptor Susanne Ring will present an installation of ceramic sculptures, paintings and drawings in her solo exhibition. In the participatory exhibition Artministration Part 1 by the Büro für kuratorische Forschung (Office for Curatorial Research) under the direction of Julia Heunemann and Ulrike Riebel, curating is explored as an administrative-performative process.

Susanne Ring – Körper Speicher Tempel

In her solo exhibition, artist Susanne Ring (*1966) presents a large-scale installation of ceramic works, incorporating elements from painting, drawing, fabric and furniture into her installations. The figures presented in the installation are constructed by the sculptor as hybrid beings with reduced physical features such as heads, arms or legs, which nevertheless cannot be assigned to any clear body image. Partly balancing on thin stilts, they refer to a tension between statics and materiality. Her sculptural vocabulary moves at the interface between body and shell, and the figures are reminiscent of vessels as storage places.
In their fragmented presence, the sculptures question body norms, ideals of beauty and the attribution of identity and gender. They address the right to ambivalence and non-belonging, open up spaces for alternative interpretations and elude clear attributions.
The result is spatial arrangements of sensitive individual bodies that oscillate between strength and vulnerability, self-assertion and neediness. Ring's unmistakable sculptural vocabulary forms a plastic language that not only speaks about the body but becomes the body itself, questioning notions of wholeness, form and integrity.

Office for Curatorial Research – Artministration Part 1

Founded by curators Julia Heunemann and Ulrike Riebel, the Büro für kuratorische Forschung (BKF) is opening an exhibition space in Galerie Nord on 2 June with a DJ and snacks. The BKF explores the practices, politics and fields of curating in the form of exhibitions, events and publications.

With the exhibition series Artministration, the BKF takes a self-deprecating and system-critical look at private, professional and public administrative practices and processes, as well as the forms of knowledge associated with them.
To kick off the series, visitors are invited to participate in the realisation of an exhibition: from the development of an open call to the selection of the resulting artistic applications to the opening of the open call exhibition at the Büro für kuratorische Forschung. In addition, the BKF team offers personal curatorial advice during office hours.
Curatorial, administrative, participatory, and performative acts will continually redefine the relationship between office and exhibition throughout the entire duration of the project.
The results of the process will further expand the thematic scope of administrative acts in art and culture and set priorities for future editions of the Artministration exhibition series.
